I just cooked enough meals for the next twenty days. It only took me 1 and a half hours too! Granted it was only 8 seperate cuisines, but it will make for 20 meals. It was fun. Nothing got burned either:) Just wanted to let you know I am now putting vegas pics up. Troy is at a movie with co-workers

A Farewell to Arms :: Monday, June 16th 2008
So, I decided since I read a lot... I might as well write about them. Don't think for a second that these will be good, well thought out reviews though :).

Yesterday night I finished "A Farewell to Arms" by Ernest Hemingway.

Quick Overview

This is a love story of an American Lieutenant ambulance driver in the Italian army and a British nurse who he meets in a small village in Europe.

My Thoughts

All in all, this was a good book. Worthwhile read for everyone over 15 years old. It was a quick and easy read, being only about 250 pages and an intriguing subject matter (WWI).

Parts were exciting (for example: the Italian retreat and the main characters necessary defection from the army). While other parts were hard to read (for example: the dialogue between the Catherine, the nurse, and Frederic, the Lieutenant, could get a bit annoying... it was constant teenagers in love talk).

The secondary characters, in my opinion, could have been developed a bit more... I really liked the priest and Rinaldi and would have liked to have seen more of them.

The ending (I won't give it away) was one of those "punchy ones" (think any novel by Steinbeck) where the reader is supposed to be shook up a bit in the emotion department. But, I personally saw it coming and wasn't affected at all. Steinbeck was a master at this (everyone HAS to read "Of Mice and Men". It's only 110 pages, you have no excuse). Maybe I'm being too hard on the ending... it was late when I finally finished it.

All in all: 7.5 / 10.
