Heh, I would have thought somebody (other than Jake) would have wrote something. Hey, even I can be wrong sometimes.

Neuromancer
:: Friday, October 17th 2008
Here is a review of "Neuromancer" by William Gibson.
I know... Don Quixote... I'm done with "The First Quest" and needed a break, the second quest is coming...
Yesterday night I finished "Neuromancer" by William Gibson.
Quick Overview
This is a very stylized story of a beaten down "hacker" who gets a second chance because a crazy AI program wants him to bust down the walls (or ICE) that hold it from becoming "more".
My Thoughts
Did I say it was stylized??? Well, it is. The author William Gibson wrote another book called
"Johnny Mnemonic"
, which you might remember as being a movie from the 90's with Keanu "WHOA!" Reeves. From what I have read, the movie was a drastic departure from the book and doesn't deserve the name... but, if you have seen it, you will understand what I mean by stylized.
Going into the book I had a bad taste in my mouth, because I know that without this and a few other
cyberpunk
books, I would have never had to sit through one of
the worst films ever
. I still won't ever understand why some of my friends like that thing.
But, then again we wouldn't have had "The Matrix", "Escape From New York", and
a whole list of others
So, onto the book. The plot was excellent, I really enjoyed that. I liked how the two AI's were behind the scenes pulling the strings. The few elements that I didn't care for were these.
Certain characters were too cool. Seriously, some of them needed a bit more humanity.
The main person in charge of the the T-A (a huge future corporation) was a little girl. Might have been novel back then (way back in ye olde 1984) to have a little girl with knowledge beyond her years... but, this is 2008... it has been beaten to death
Made up words. This book was FULL of them and it was kind of confusing at times. Of course, it also came up with words we still use today like "cyberspace".
Other than those few issues and painful memories of sitting through some bad movies... it was fun to read. At times it was confusing enough for me to re-read sections to figure out what or who a thing was (see my last point above). Would I recommend this book? Yeah, but only recommend this book to anyone who sits on a computer as much as I do.
All in all:
7.7 / 10
.

New Features
:: Sunday, October 12th 2008
So, according to Jake... I'm an overachiever. You now can add comments to posts, and that's kind of fun. Also, so we will update this thing more often I made it MUCHO easier for Mandy to upload images and edit descriptions. I also fixed a bug with the photo gallery so it doesn't skip images anymore.

:: Friday, September 12th 2008
I recently spent the weekend in MSP catching up with my girlfriends. I had a great time, while Troy was back in CA hanging out with the guys. We celebrated Troy's 29th birthday on monday by watching the vikings packers game.....too bad they lost.

So, I just saw the wierdest thing.
:: Tuesday, September 9th 2008
I was coming back from the gym in my car and in front of me was a brand new white Nissan truck and a silver Lexus SUV. The Lexus started into a lane change and smacked the Nissan. Immediately the Lexus slowed down, most likely because he was distraught from causing an accident.
This is when it became weird.
Neither vehicle made a move to pull over and check the damage. There definitely was damage. From behind I could see that the Lexus' drivers side mirror was busted up. I pulled up closer to the Nissan and saw scratches all down the side. Then it pulled in ahead of the Lexus.
The Lexus then changed lanes, and finally the Nissan took a right onto Castro.
Later on down the road I took a left and was right next to the damaged Lexus and could see a couple hundred dollars worth of damage... the driver was just smoking with the window down.
Now I don't know what transpired between them while they were side by side for about 40 seconds, maybe they both signed that neither wanted to report this for some reason... strange.
